New to Val d’Isère 2016/17

Val d’Isere is a fantastic resort for piste skiing, back country, nightlife and of course apres ski. So here are some more reason why to go this year!

Val d'Isere

Gondola Upgrade

“New gondola for 16-17 is the biggest news in a decade for Val d’Isère” The Solaise gondola is the last phase of the two-year €16 million redevelopment, reaching 2500m at the top.

The new gondola will include:

  • 10-person gondola with 91 cabins
  • 7-minute journey making it one of the fastest in the world
  • 40% more capacity
  • Heated seats
  • WiFi- time to share those mountain selfies.
  • Choice of using the exterior baskets or inside space for your skis and boards to speed up loading time.

It will also have less of environmental impact as they have reduced the number of lift stations from 8 with 34 pylons to just 2 with 16 pylons. Also, as the gondola machinery is buried underground, this significantly reduces the noise impact on our little inhabitant friends who we share the mountain with.

New Beginner Area

At the top of the gondola will be the perfect pitch for learning first steps on skis and snowboard. They will have 3 magic carpets lifts and the ideal slope for beginners to build their ability and confidence before heading out to explore the rest of Val d’Isere.

New Years in Val d’Isere

And finally, it’s not new, but it is New Year Eve and this has got to be one of the top resorts to spend it in. So forget about seeing which of your friends is doing what and when back in England and the extortionate taxi prices, join the celebration in Val d’Isere this year and have an unforgettable (for some literally) New Year Eve. Val-dIsere-nye

What to expect:

  • Spectacular firework celebrations
  • Live music and sound show
  • View the giant snow sculptures along the main street
  • Festive street entertainment all day and night.
  • Bar/Clubs offering drink specials – what to expect!

If you are planning to go and have your accommodation sorted, I would highly recommend getting your event tickets closer to the time as it gets very busy, very quickly.
Now I know the New Year’s Eve celebration is the main attraction but the day ski is just as important. The pistes are usually empty first thing so it’s definitely worth getting up early for a big day skiing. Why don’t you treat yourself to a ski tour with New Generation, give them a shout if you haven’t yet booked your ski / snowboard adventure.

Well there you have it, just a few new things to look forward to in Val d’Isere this year. Follow us on Facebook (or any of our other platforms) for new news in the ski world.
