Situated in probably one of the most spectacular regions in the Swiss Alps, the high snow-sure resort of Zermatt is overlooked by the awesome Matterhorn. It has everything to offer by way of fantastic skiing, hugely picturesque surroundings and a traditional pretty Alpine village. It has great nightlife and fantastic mountain restaurants.
The resort is a car-free zone and the only vehicles are the local electric taxis, mini-buses and horse-drawn sleighs. You arrive into resort from via mountain railway to cobbled streets packed with beautiful shops, boutiques and quaint tea-rooms. There are indoor swimming pools, curling, ice-skating, bowling, fitness centre, solarium and Zermatt offers one of very few places in Europe in which to heli-ski.
This is one of Europe's top skiing resorts and you can enjoy the vast ski area which also covers Cervinia in Italy. Whilst skiing is a little limited for complete beginners, there is a huge range for the intermediate and advanced and snowboarders can enjoy the Gravity Park and some long winding runs high on the mountain and glacier.
