Activities in Avoriaz
You may think that the non skier would be forgotten about in this famous resort. However there are plenty of activities for those in the group not keen to hit the slopes, ranging from senic snow mobiles to glacier walking.
Walking or Snow Shoeing
By strapping lightweight plastic snowshoes to your feet, you are able to walk through deeper snow and therefore enjoy a great area of terrain, stunning scenery and interesting wildlife. You can go with a local guide and explore hidden parts of the valley.
You can hire your own snow shoes from most sports shops, get a trail map and head off on your own. However, from a safety and enjoyment perspective, it is far more advisable to go with a guide. Here are some contact details for guides in Avoriaz:

Glacier Wallking
Enjoy stunning views not possible to be seen from the pistes. You will need to hire equipment and a guide, but it will be well worth it for the adventure.
Ice Climbing
You can scale an amazing waterfall or glacier. This fantastic sport is not just for experienced mountaineers. The frozen columns of the Gachette, Dame du Lac and Brochaux waterfalls are stunning locations. The season peaks between December and March.
Ski Jouring
Ski Jouring means that you can escape the lifts and trek through the woods away from the lifts. A reiderless horse is used which is controlled by the skier. A rig with reigns is connected to the horse's bridle and the skier is towed along behind the horse on skis, holding onto the rig. You steer by using vocal commands and by pulling on lines connected to the horse's bit
