Travelling to Les Arcs

Transport...often the one thing that people put at the bottom of their ‘to do’ list and end up leaving until the last minute! Getting to Les Arcs could not be simpler, with Bourg St .Maurice situated a mere 7 minutes away from Arc 1600 (if you take the funicular). You can travel directly from London to Bourg St. Maurice and with a free bus linking Arc 1600 to the rest of the villages that make up Les Arcs, you will have no problem reaching your preferred village! Here is some information that should help you, but if you need a little more then please don't hesitate to contact our team in the office who will be more than happy to point you in the right direction...literally.



Les Arcs Airport Distances

Our ATOL number is 6860.  We can offer a range of different flight options and whether you prefer to book low cost airline flights yourself or have us book charter or scheduled seats, executive jets or helicopters on your behalf, you choose the mode of transport most suited to you. can choose the most suitable options available.  Also, if you are travelling from outside of the UK you have the freedom to book a direct flight to your destination without having to go via London, therefore saving you time, money and a unnecessary additional journey. 


The nearest airport to Les Arcs is Chambery but Geneva Airport is the most popular. It offers the biggest selection of scheduled international flights and if you plan on getting a private or shared transfer, Geneva is your best option.




Getting the Eurostar is a great alternative to flying out to resort or driving.  You can get the Eurostar from King’s Cross St Pancras to the French Alps directly, and it avoids the hassle of early check in times and the lengthy transfer to resort, as Bourg St. Maurice is only 35 minutes transfer to Les Arcs. Depending on which trains you pick you can also get 8 days of skiing into your 7 night holiday.  There is an overnight train leaving on Friday evenings so you can ski on Saturday, or a Saturday morning train that arrives early evening in time for dinner.  For your return journey you can depart on Saturday mornings and Saturday evenings.


The quickest and most popular way to travel to Les Arcs from the valley below is via the funicular from Bourg St. Maurice station. The funicular costs €7 for adults or you can travel for free with a valid lift pass if you want to pop down to the lovely town during your holiday. The funicular takes less than 10 minutes to get to Les Arcs.  There is a funicular every 20 minutes from 7am until 9pm. The funicular will take you to Arc 1600 and there are free shuttles that can transport you to Arc 1800, 1950 and 2000.



Choosing to book a private transfer is great if you and your party want to be greeted at the airport with a vehicle to yourselves. You will receive a great service that operates door to door. Powder White runs its own private transfer service and we have a great relationship with a number of transfer companies too. Due to private transfers being one of the most popular modes of transportation to resort, it is always best to book in advance and advisable not to leave until the last minute! NB: In an alpine environment sat navs are not always accurate and they will not be aware of road closures.
For driving in France, it is important that you check you have the following:
Beam deflectors
Warning triangle
Reflective vest
Green card.  This is international comprehensive car insurance.
GB Sticker
Spare set of car light bulbs
Car documentation (registration, insurance, MOT etc)
Valid Road Tax
Valid Driving Licence

*Do also remember your snow chains; you may not be allowed up to resort without them. Also recommended by motoring organisations (and in some cases a legal requirement) for continental travel in winter are the following items: small spares kit, fire extinguisher, spare keys, manufacturer’s handbook, & shovel. 
In France, it is now a legal requirement from November 2012 to carry a breathalyzer in your car at all times. You will be fined by police if you cannot produce one on request.


If you can cope with the overnight journey, an excellent way to travel to resort is via Snow Express who provide coach transfers to Les Arcs, dropping you at Bourg St Maurice where they will transfer you to a public bus service up to resort (included in price). Coaches leave London Victoria Coach station on a Friday evening and they also do a pick up at Folkstone.
