NB: In an alpine environment Sat Navs are not always accurate and they will not be aware of road closures.

 

For driving in France, it is important that you check you have the following:

Beam deflectors

Warning triangle

Reflective vest

Green card.  This is international comprehensive car insurance.

Spare set of car light bulbs

Car documentation (registration, insurance MOT etc)

Do also remember your snow chains, you may not be allowed up to resort without them.

 

Driving:

From Calais

From Calais it is about 940km to Les Deux Alpes. There are two autoroutes/peages that can be taken, these are the French motorways. The autoroutes are toll roads, payment can be made by credit cards or Euros.

 

·         From CALAIS follow the A26 towards REIMS and onto TROYES.

·         Follow the autoroute towards and around DIJON and join the A6 at BEAUNE towards LYON.

·         On to the A46 heading towards Grenoble, continue onto the N346 heading towards Grenoble and Chambery and the A43.

·         Continue onto the A43 heading towards A48 and Grenoble, continue onto the A48 towards Chambery and A480.

·         Turn left onto the A480 passing close to Grenoble, take exit 8 towards Exite Vizille and N85.

·         Continue onto the D1085, take D1091 Route de Bourg D'Oisans.

·         Turn right onto the D213 pass by Mont-de-Lans, arrive at Les Deux Alpes.         

 

From Chambery:

Chambery it is about 132km to les Deux Alpes

 

·         On leaving Chambery airport turn onto the N201 following signs for Albertville (also signposted at first to Grenoble)

·         Continue following the Albertville signs eventually turning onto the A41, take the exit towards E712.

·         Close to Saint Martin d'Heres continue along N87/E712

·         Close to Grenoble take A480/E712 towards Espace Comboire, take exit 8 towards Exite Vizille and N85.

·         Continue onto the D1085, take D1091 Route de Bourg D'Oisans

Turn right onto the D213 pass by Mont-de-Lans, arrive at Les Deux Alpes.

 

 

From Geneva

From Geneva it is about 474km to Les Deux Alpes.

On leaving the airport follow the green signs for France.
These signs lead you, via the motorway/duel carriage way, to the Swiss/French border.
Once past the two custom posts follow signs in blue for the autoroute marked Grenoble, Annecy.
Leave the autoroute at Junction 16, Albertville.  Once through the peage / toll booth (cost in Nov. 2009, 6 Euors) follow the green signs to Albertville.
Close to Chambery continue along the N201/E712, continue onto the A41/E712 towards the N87.
Close to Grenoble take the A480/E712 towards Espace Comboire, take exit 8 towards Exite Vizille and N85.
Continue onto the D1085, take D1091 Route de Bourg D'Oisans.
Turn right onto the D213 pass by Mont-de-Lans, arrive at Les Deux Alpes.
From Lyon

From Lyon it is about 175km to Les Deux Alpes.

On leaving the airport follow the green signs for Chambery and the A43.
Head towards A48 and Grenoble, continue onto the A48 towards the A480 and Grenoble-Centre.
Turn left onto the A480 passing close to Grenoble take the A480/E712 towards Espace Comboire, take exit 8 towards Exite Vizille and N85.
Continue onto the D1085, take D1091 Route de Bourg D'Oisans.
Turn right onto the D213 pass by Mont-de-Lans, arrive at Les Deux Alpes.
