Samoëns is perhaps the cutest of the lower traditional farming villages that share the extensive Grand Massif ski area with purpose-built Flaine. Packed full of alpine charm, the village has a small traffic free centre of narrow streets, a pretty square, church and other medieval buildings. It is a great base for families and those after an authentic "rural France" experience.

Samoëns has some of its own excellent shady slopes under the Tête des Seix and there are glorious views from the top heights. The Grand Massif is a great white playground for all ability levels and the two gondolas from the villages whisk skiers towards Flaine and beyond.

Given that Samoëns is still a small village, it is not liveliest resort for après, however there are a couple of bars and a good selection of restaurants. Off the slopes there are activities to keep all entertained, including dog sledding, snowshoeing and an ice rink.
