Travelling to Tignes
Transport...often the one thing that people put at the bottom of their ‘to do’ list and end up leaving until the last minute! Getting to Tignes is easy and accessible via various different routes and modes of transport. Here is some information that should help you, but if you need a little more then please don't hesitate to contact our team in the office who will be more than happy to point you in the right direction...literally.
Powder White hold an Air Travel Organiser's Licence granted by The Civil Aviation Authority. Our ATOL number is 6860. We can offer you a range of different flight options and whether you prefer to book low cost airline flights yourself or have us book charter or scheduled seats, executive jets and helicopters on your behalf, you can choose the most suitable option available. If you are travelling from outside of the UK you have the freedom to book a direct flight to your destination without having to go via London, therefore saving you time, money and an unnecessary additional journey. (NB. In the unlikely event of our insolvency and where flights have been provided by us as part of a package, the CAA will ensure that you are not stranded abroad and will arrange to refund any money you have paid to us for an advance booking).
The nearest airport to Tignes is Chambery, but Geneva is the most popular and has more international flights scheduled. Grenoble is also close by with Lyon being the furthest away.

Getting the Eurostar is a great alternative to flying out to resort or driving. You can get the Eurostar from King’s Cross St Pancras to the French Alps directly, and it avoids the hassle of early check in times and the lengthy transfer to resort, as Bourg St Maurice is approximately 40 minutes from Tignes. Depending on which trains you pick you can also get 8 days of skiing into your 7 night holiday. There is an overnight train leaving on Friday evenings so you can ski on Saturday, or a Saturday morning train that arrives early evening in time for dinner. For your return journey you can depart on Saturday mornings and Saturday evenings.

From Bourg St Maurice Train Station you can take a prebooked private or shared transfer.
Choosing to book a private transfer is great if you and your party want to be greeted at the airport with a vehicle to yourselves. You will receive a great service that operates door to door. Powder White runs its own private transfer service and we have a great relationship with a number of transfer companies too. Due to private transfers being one of the most popular modes of transportation to resort, it is always best to book in advance and advisable not to leave until the last minute! So, book now to avoid disappointment!

Shared transfers are fantastic if you want to cut the cost of travelling to resort – that is, if you don’t mind travelling with people you don't know. Prices will suit single passengers, couples and smaller groups the best.
From Geneva Airport to Tignes the prices start at £82 per person return.

For driving in France, it is important that you check you have the following:
Green card. This is international comprehensive car insurance.
Spare set of car light bulbs
Car documentation (registration, insurance, MOT etc)
Valid Road Tax
Valid Driving Licence
*Do also remember your snow chains, you may not be allowed up to resort without them. Also recommended by motoring organisations (and in some cases a legal requirement) for continental travel in winter are the following items: Small spares kit, fire extinguisher, spare keys, manufacturer’s handbook, & shovel.
In France, it is now a legal requirement from November 2012 to carry a breathalyzer in your car at all times. You will be fined by police if you cannot produce one on request.
Snow Express provides coach transfers to Tignes directly, dropping you at a convenient section of Tignes with a short walk to the resort centre. Coaches leave London Victoria Coach station on Friday evening and they also do a pick up at Folkstone. Prices for Tignes start at £65.

Why stick to the windy roads and lengthy journey? The quickest and most stylish way to arrive in resort is by helicopter, with breath taking views of the Alps included too. You can travel in a single or twin engine helicopter, private or shared from most airports. From Geneva the journey time is 35 minutes by helicopter to Tignes Please note that this is a helicopter transfer only and does not include transport from Helipad to accomodation.
