Eating in Resort
We know how important refuelling is on a ski holiday and Val d'Isere does not disappoint on the gastronomy front. Val isn’t all about the skiing they have some fantastic restaurants serving a variety of dishes; from traditional Savoyard classics through pizzas, there is something to suit most tastes. These remarkable restaurants range from the affordable to the exceedingly expensive!
We have taken the time to list all the restaurants both on and off the mountain that we think are worth paying a visit, many of which we have had the pleasure of eating in.
Located near the nursery slope, this is one of the places to head for a top-of-the-range meal. The restaurant has kept its thirties feel, you will fall in love with the open fire place, smoke tainted timber and cosy atmosphere. The restaurant offers a very traditional French menu, you can also have a true local savoie dinner, in a real mountain chalet viewing the starlit sky or falling snow. Food ranges from a triple cheese fondue to oven baked lobster gratin.
In House Pianist
Le Belle Etoille
Very chic yet welcoming with an in house pianist most nights. The lounge stays open until 2am, so no need to rush off after your meal. The cuisine fuses French and Asian feel so offers something a bit different to those looking for something other than raclette and fondue.
Size doesn't matter
This is a small but very welcoming restaurant, with a more low profile than other restaurants in Val d’Isere. It offers gourmet cuisine including local Savoyarde specialities as well as pizzas.
Fantastic fondue, and typical French mountain food. They have 2 sittings, one at 7.30pm and one at 9pm making the service really efficient but if you want to go at 7.30, don’t expect to have your table all evening!
Cosy and Warm
The restaurant reputation revolves around the fire-grilled dishes prepared in front of the customers. You have to taste the extra-tender beef ribs. The owner Minet has also made a great selection of wines, at a reasonable price. The menu also includes specialities from the Savoie region including Savoyarde hotpot, tartiflette and cheese fondue. Service starts 6pm daily.
Kick start your evening here
Great if you would like a cosy restaurant with a mountain feel. They do excellent steaks, pizzas, pastas and fondue at an excellent price. Le Lodge is also a cosy place to go for an après drink with live acts performing on selected nights. Located just opposite the Hotel Christiana so a great place from which to continue your evening at either Dicks, Bananas or Victors.
Le Perdrix Blanche
Well located in the centre of the town this is a very child friendly restaurant with excellent seafood as well as pasta pizza and steak. There is even an aquarium meaning that you can choose your own fresh lobster!
Something a little different
If you fancy getting out of the hustle and bustle of Val d’Isere, take the bus up to Le Fornet and experience French food at its best. L’Arolay specialise in all things Savoyarde such as fondues and raclette.
Does one of the above restaurants take your fancy? If so it may be worth booking it either prior to your departure by simply calling the number detailed or alternatively you can wait until you arrive in resort and let your resort manage know which restaurant you would like booking and they will be more than happy to help. We highly recommend that you pre-book if you are travelling on a peak week, to save disappointment.
