Verbier- Eating
Most of the mountain restaurants in Verbier are of the self-service variety, this perhaps reflects the serious attitude taken by many of the skiers. There are 30 mountain restaurants in the area most of which serve traditional alpine cuisine, and they do tend to get busy in high season, so it is worth booking ahead for table service.
Chez Dany
This restaurant is located on the off piste route from Les Ruinettes down to Medran, on the Southern fringe of the area. This classic cosy old chalet is one of the best mountain restaurants in the area and gets rather busy so it is well worth booking ahead. It is perfectly situated on a nice sunny plateau surrounded by the alpine forest, with a breathtaking view over the Combins Massiv and the Bagnes valley. The menu is very traditional and comprises of tartiflette and cheese fondue among other popular dishes.

Marmotte
La Marmotte is situated in the hamlet of Planards at 1930m, making it the perfect location to enjoy the alpine mountains and fresh air. The terrace is exposed to the full south which guaranties a pleasant period sunshine. The decor is authentic wood and stone, it reigns a warm and friendly atmosphere. You can sample the various savours of the valley of Bagnes or seasonal dishes. You can pick from traditional fondues and rosti’s, as well as a selection of pasta dishes.

Namaste
Probably the best restaurant out on the mountain, booking is essential. This rustic and warm welcoming restaurant can be found on the south facing slope of the Savoleyres looking out on to the Combin and Mont Blanc. The rustic menu in keeping with the restaurant, you will find fondues, a wide variety of salads and several meat dishes.

Sonalon
On the fringe of the village, this wooden-sided chalet is warm and comfortable dining spot. You can reach it by car or by the Savoleyres lift. You can either sit inside, or make the most of the sunshine by heading out to the beautiful outdoor terrace with panoramic views encompassing the entire village of Verbier. Menu items include raclette, several kinds of fondue, grilled lamb chops and a selection of fish dishes.

Carrefour
By the road near the top of the nursery slopes, at the top of 302 Le Rouge. Pedestrian: take the No 1 Carrefour bus (which leaves four times an hour from Medran). Prices at le Carrefour are above-average but the extra cost is reflected in the quality of food. The restaurant sits by major pistes and near the bus stop so makes a convenient meeting-place.

L’Olympique
If you are serious about food, this is the best place to head for. Set in an unremarkable building at the top of the Funiscape lift. They have recently opened a new space the “lounge”, which is located on the terrace of their restaurant. You can relax, take a drink and enjoy the finest alpine scenery. As well as producing excellent and imaginative cuisine the walls are decorated with Winter Olympic memorabilia and autographed photos of celebrity clientele. You can either pick from the restaurants a la carte menu or you can simply enjoy the self-service option.

Cabane de Mont Fort
Lift: La Chaux 4 Jumbo, then down the (red) Gentianes to la Chaux. Pedestrian: no access. This tucked-away climbers' refuge is surprisingly popular, considering its location and the fact that the pretty view is rather spoiled by the lifts. Order food from the hatch outside, or the bar inside, but be prepared to queue.

King’s
Is one of the favourites, due to its innovative food in a stylish setting, which boasts a beautiful open fire. King’s specialises in seafood and meats, with lobster, turbot and wild boar on the menu, which provides a refreshing alternative to your usual mountain cuisine. For those of you who enjoy wine there is also an impressive wine cellar.

Le Table d’Adrien
In five-star Chalet d’Adrien is the Le Table d’Adrien which is the new hottest restaurant in Verbier. Its chef Marco Bassi was awarded a Michelin star at the end of 2008. He offers a gourmet menu and fine dining influenced by his Italian origins. An example of what you will find on the menu is roasted prawns with coconuts, tagliolini with truffles and stuffed pigeon. This restaurant offers memorable moments in a warm and friendly environment.

Le Grenier
This is a rustic restaurant serving classic old hearty farmhouse dishes. The restaurant opens at lunchtime and in the evening, and it serves alpine cuisine with authentic flavours. This is coupled with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. If you are looking for traditional mountain cuisine then this is the place to go. They serve braserades, stews and fondues.

Les Rosalp
This picturesque chalet, set in the heart of Verbier, is the perfect place to enjoy the culinary creations of Roland Pierroz, recently voted chef of the year. Michelin starred, Les Rosalp offers fabulous food including an excellent 7 course delight and some exquisite wines to match. The prices however match the quality of the food, so it isn’t a cheap night out.

Le Fer a Cheval
If you are looking for reasonably priced pizza and other simple dishes, this is the place to go. The inexpensive menu and more relaxed atmosphere, tends to draw in a lot of British holiday makers so it is a good idea to book a table.

Pub Mont Fort
The pub is now known for its ‘world’ food. The restaurant found downstairs in the Pub Mont Fort offers a selection of gastro pub food at reasonable prices. They pride themselves on making changes to their menu each season; massively popular dishes are Mont Fort Burger, Thai Beef Salade and the Mexican wrap. Food is served daily from 4pm to 10pm.

Al Capone
Located near the Savoleyres gondola. The “hanging meat” has to be tried, it is also known for its extensive pizza menu. It provides a relaxed atmosphere and a reasonably priced menu.

You can be ferried by snowmobile up to the iconic Chez Dany or Marmotte for a meal, followed by a torch lit descent. Both are mountain restaurants that offer rustic traditional mountain cuisine. Marmottes is known for its tasty cheese croutes and fondue. Book ahead for an evening meal.
