Sauze d'Oulx is by far the liveliest of the 5 villages within the 400km Milky Way ski area spanning the border of France and Italy. The resort centre at the base of the slopes is pedestrianised and it sprawls out to the old village full of cobbled streets and wooden buildings with stone roofs, a 16th century church and fountain at the centre as well as plenty of bars and restaurants.
Around Sauze d'Oulx you'll find a huge array of long quiet slopes with the lower reaches covered in larch forest giving you some fantastically winding tree runs. Higher up you'll find spectacular mountain panoramas through to France - if you get the area pass you can ski over here as well. Suited well to intermediate skiers, the resort is full of reds and the few blacks there are aren't the most challenging, creating a cruisy ski area with the size to give you a real sense of travelling through it.
Overlooking the Susa Valley, Sauze d'Oulx is nicknamed 'the balcony of the Alps' and there are definitely the views to back this claim. A year-round population keeps the town (or rather, large village) thriving. Renown for a buzzing nightlife Sauze offers a good mix of bars. You'll be able to find the right spot for you whether you're after sophisticated wine bars or up for partying till the early hours.
A huge 400km lift-linked ski area, Sauze d'Oulx is one of 5 villages in the Milky Way. You can ski over to France if you get the area lift pass. Around the resort, you'll find plenty of long red runs (that would probably be blue in other resort) giving a cruisy feel to the ski area. The upper slopes have great views and the lower slopes are covered by trees. Ravines separate the various sections of the ski area and give you a real sense of travelling around.
