Part of the vast Portes du Soleil ski circuit, Châtel is a pretty and largely unspoiled village with a distinctly French feel. Unpretentious chalets and chalet-style apartments and hotels rub shoulders with working farms and a lack of major tour operators make for an authentic ski experience.

The resort's slopes are linked on one side with high purpose-built Avoriaz and one the other, with the Swiss resorts of Morgins and Torgon. The Portes du Soleil ski area offers something for all abilities and locally there are some fantastic red runs for intermediates, whilst the "Super-Châtel" slopes are excellent for beginners to progress on. For experts there is still some challenging local terrain both on and off piste, in addition to all that is offered on the circuit.

Despite its size, Châtel maintains a lively feel and has a couple of après style bars where everyone descends at the end of skiing, as well as a happy hour and live music haunt for those wishing to party into the night. If you are looking to make the most of a huge ski area whilst still enjoying a traditional French experience then Châtel is surely the place!
